<scopecontent> Scope and Content

<scopecontent> is a wrapper element used to contain a prose summary of the range and topical coverage of the described materials in order to assist researchers in evaluating the relevance of the materials. It can cover form and arrangement, important names, events, places, and subjects. If there are significant gaps in the materials or strengths which may be useful to researchers, these should also be noted. The element may be nested to contain <scopecontent> notes for particular segments of the collection.

This element is comparable to ISAD(G) data element 3.3.1 and MARC field 520.

<scopecontent> is one of the elements which may be used within <archdesc>, <archdescgrp>, <c>, <c01> through <c12>, and <descgrp>.

Attributes

  • ALTRENDER – not required. Use if the content of the element should be displayed or printed differently than the rendering established in a style sheet for other occurrences of the element.
  • AUDIENCE – not required. Use to set whether the element’s contents will be visible to external users or to internal ones. Possible values are: “internal” and “external.”
  • ID – not required. Creates an ID for element. Can be used for linking.
  • ENCODINGANALOG – not required. May contain information to map this tag to a particular element in another schema.

Each report contains the date, parts per million of type of pollutant detected, variation from the previous reading as numbers and percentage, and the initials of the surveyer who collected the data from the station. Pollutants measured are carbon monoxide (CO), lead (Pb), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), particulate matter (PM), and sulfur dioxide (SO2). </p>
