<genreform> Genre/Physical Characteristic

<genreform> is an element used to identify the types of materials being described based on their intellectual content, order of information, or object function. Examples may be anything from account books to videotapes. Not all genres/forms need to be tagged, but those for which greater retrieval should be provided may be tagged. The element may be used to tag any genre/form during a paragraph, with the @normal attribute supplying the proper form of the term.

Genres/forms which make up large amounts of the material should be listed within <controlaccess> even if they are indicated elsewhere. It may be used within
, <archref>, <bibref>, <controlaccess>, <entry>, <event>, <indexentry>, <item>, <namegrp>, <p>, <physfact>, <ref>, and <unittitle>.

  • @relator – not required. Use it to specify either as a URI or a phrase (string), other relationship(s) the genre form has to the described materials, for example. Replaces and extends functionality of @role from EAD 2002.
