<unittitle> Title of the Unit

<unittitle> encodes the name, either formal or supplied, of the described materials. It can be used in the highest level <did> to encode the highest-level title and within subordinate <c> levels to encode lower-level titles.

<unittitle> should not be confused with the general element <title> or the <titleproper> of the finding aid. While <unittitle> is an important element within <did> and <c>, it may also be used within <archref>, <entry>, <event>, <extref>, <extrefloc>, <item>, <label>, <p>, <ref>, and <refloc> to reference the title of any unit.

Attributes

  • ALTRENDER – not required. Use if the content of the element should be displayed or printed differently than the rendering established in a style sheet for other occurrences of the element.
  • AUDIENCE – not required. Use to set whether the element’s contents will be visible to external users or to internal ones. Possible values are: “internal” and “external.”
  • ID – not required. Creates an ID for element. Can be used for linking.
  • ENCODINGANALOG – not required. May contain information to map this tag to a particular element in another schema.
  • LABEL – not required. This can be used when a meaningful display label for an element can’t be derived by the stylesheet from its name. It is available in all <did> subelements.
  • TYPE – not required. May be used to indicate the system from which the title was derived.

Subelements

<unittitle> will likely PCDATA. It may contain: <abbr>, <archref>, <bibref>, <bibseries>, <corpname>, <date>, <edition>, <emph>, <expan>, <extptr>, <extref>, <famname>, <function>, <genreform>, <geogname>, <imprint>, <lb />, <linkgrp>, <name>, <num>, <occupation>, <persname>, <ptr>, <ref>, <subject>, <title>, and <unitdate>.

DACS

Use DACS Section 2.3, Title. Required. (DACS 2013, pp.17-23)
